Think your roof is leaking? It’s probably not, Omaha experts say - WOWT

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Roofing companies in the Omaha metro are getting swamped by callers who believe their roof is leaking. But experts say the problem is likely not the roof. Trent Lovewell with Weatherguard says his phone is ringing nonstop with people who see water inside their house. Lovewell says extreme weather is exposing other problems. Snow buildup is melting during the day, and then freezing overnight or when the temperatures plunge. The temperature change can cause condensation to build up in attics and drip. Also, ice dams are forming on rooftops, preventing water from draining. The main underlying problem is lack of proper insulation. "If you don't have the correct amount of insulation in your attic, which should be anywhere from 18 to 22 inches, your attic is sucking in cold air from the vents," said Lovewell. "If your vents on your soffits are plugged, then your air can't come in and the air can't go out. With extreme temperatures, you're c

Always Green Carpet Cleaner , 347-344-5807; alwaysgreencarpetcleaner.com The selling point for Always Green is that its professionals conduct their carpet, rug, and upholstery cleaning with exclusively safe, nontoxic, and chemical-free solutions — meaning it's better for the children and dogs who may be lounging on said carpets, rugs, and upholstery afterward. (Its main agents are Biokleen, a phosphate-, chlorine-, and ammonia-free product sold at Whole Foods, and diluted hydrogen peroxide.) This is what prompted Meg Carrigan, a creative director and mother of two, to call the shop after a vomit-related accident involving a Miles Talbott chair with blue-and-white upholstery. Always Green came the next day, easily removed the stain with a deep clean, then applied a protective treatment to defend against future spills. (From $84 for a basic steam cleaning; protective treatment is an additional $25 to $50.) After buying her dream sofa, a Kravet couch with custom blue-and-ivory

‘Nobody does it better?’ Come off it, esure - The Guardian

I have insured my property with esure for some years. Each year it sends a renewal reminder, but the date passed without a word this year. Then, two weeks later, I received a bizarre email effectively dumping me due to "an upgrade of our internal system". At first I thought it was a scam. It didn't include any personal details, or my policy number. I called and, after listening to the hold music – "Nobody Does It Better" – spoke to a woman who appeared to know nothing about it. To add insult to injury the email ended "we hope you'll choose us again in the future". PG, Bradford I was inclined to think the email was a scam, too, because of its airy manner and poor writing. "What does this mean for me?" asks the anonymous writer at the end of a paragraph referring repeatedly to "you". Amazingly, it is legitimate. "As part of our large-scale transformation programme, we are developing a new digital platform which means we have

Does Home Insurance Cover Water Damage? (2024) - MarketWatch

The cause and type of water damage is what determines insurance coverage. Homeowners insurance typically covers water damage caused by sudden or accidental events, like an appliance break or windstorm. However, home damage caused by rising water levels outside won't be covered unless you have flood insurance. Water damage caused by homeowner negligence is also not covered. You can find a full list of covered events and exclusions in your homeowners insurance policy.
