Pa. halts permits for Texas-based pipeline company building Mariner East - Daily Local News

Image
The company building the series of Mariner East pipelines has once again run afoul of state regulators. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Friday suspended all reviews of clean water permit applications and other pending approvals associated for Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners, and subsidiaries until further notice due to non-compliance. ETP, along with its subsidiary Sunoco Pipeline LP, is building the Mariner East pipelines carrying hundreds of thousands of barrels of highly volatile liquid gases from the state's Marcellus Shale region through Chester and Berks counties to a facility in Marcus Hook. “ETC Northeast Pipeline, operated by ET, failed to comply with the Oct. 29, 2018, order issued following the explosion along the Revolution pipeline on Sept. 10, 2018,” said DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell. “This hold will continue until the operator corrects their violations to our satisfaction.” The move will not halt the flow of gases through Mariner ...

The world as we know it is changing, and has been for the past three decades. The foundation – trust – has remained the same, but now it’s trust amongst both consumers and search engines, versus just consumers as in the past. The internet explosion that occurred back in the ’90s revolutionized the marketing and advertising industries, giving businesses an alternative to reach potential customers over traditional TV, radio and print. The next big hit was the smartphone, which gave users an even more convenient way to access the internet. Then before you knew it, social media was taking over, tracking user data and turning it into personalized ad experiences. Needless to say, the world has been changing significantly for almost 30 years – and it’s not showing signs of slowing down any time soon. Make the Most Out of Voice Search and the Other Internet Trends of 2018 The big internet trends to watch, the ones that will further the online revolution, include voice search – and voice-con...

Chiefs fan banned over claims he pointed laser at Brady - CityNews Calgary

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs have instituted a lifetime ban against a fan accused of flashing a laser at New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during last month’s AFC championship game. The Kansas City Star reports the Chiefs say the team is also working with authorities to charge the fan “as aggressively as possible,” but the decision is ultimately up to prosecutors in Jackson County. Prosecutor’s office spokesman Michael Mansur says charges hadn’t been filed as of Sunday. Laser pointers are banned at most sporting events because of the potential for distraction and safety reasons. The light can damage the retina in the eye after even a short period of time. The Patriots won the AFC championship game 37-31 in overtime, sending them to the Super Bowl. ___ Information from: The Kansas City Star, http://www.kcstar.com The Associated Press

Tourists preserve Italian frescoes during two-week program - The Durango Herald

Image
“Is it OK,” I asked, “to put my hand here?” “Here” was Jesus’ brown hair, on a 700-year-old fresco of the crucifixion, in a cave church in Puglia, Italy. In the fresco, Jesus’ eyes were depicted as closed, giving the portrait an oddly serene feel. My task at the moment was to use a scalpel to scrape away calcium deposits on the right eye (a spider was sitting on the left one), and I needed to ground my hand on the fresco to get good leverage. Tonio Creanza glanced over from the fresco he was working on. “Sure,” he said. So I started scraping. That someone like me – well-meaning but completely untrained and unskilled – would be applying a razor-sharp instrument to an ancient treasure is due, entirely, to Creanza, a 50-year-old George Clooney look-alike who hails from the Puglian town of Altamura. In 1989, he launched a summer workshop designed to bring in volunteers to work on preserving and celebrating some of the treasures of his native region. The idea has grown over the years. ...
