The company's air duct cleaning services, says owner Torey Okonta , are the perfect way to give families additional peace of mind in the midst of difficult times. And Then What Happened?: The art of maintenance - The Recorder

When you or I approach a building, what do we see? A structure, probably an older one if around here, with a door, some windows, steps and, what else? Well, if you're Stuart Harris, you see that building's entire 200-year history, every modification ever inflicted upon it and even what someone was thinking when they made that change. You might remember my talking about Mr. Harris last summer when I was missing Ashfield's long-dead curfew bell. I asked him about fixing it and he replied that he had a lot to do in a day, and repairing that bell wasn't on the list. The bell was restored by another local prodigy, Christopher Gray, just in time to be run over by Stuart's updated list. Every 40 years or so, Stuart wakes up to find "Fix Town Hall Steeple" on his to-do list as water, bugs and time itself catch up with the antique tower and undermine its sturdiness, calling out for one man and his crew to come and round it back into shape. That's where I found ...

McLean County Residents Again Cleaning Up From Flooding - WGLT

Image
Some McLean County residents are cleaning out flooded basements again after another round of heavy rains on Sunday. For some McLean County residents, lightning can strike twice. Angie Thomas lives in the Franklin Park neighborhood northeast of downtown Bloomington. Thomas said she and friends needed weeks to remove over 3 feet of water and sewage from her basement, following heavy rains in late June. Now, she has about 5 inches of water and sewage on her basement floor from Sunday's storms. "It never got back to normal because now every time it seems to rain, I keep getting sewage backed up into my basement," Thomas said. "(I'm) starting to feel a little defeated." Thomas said she had to replace two new furnaces and a water heater after the June storm, adding water restoration companies she called then told her she'd be on a waiting list until September. Jake Tucker is president of Servpro in Bloomington and Pontiac. Tucker said Sunday's storms weren...

There's Still Time To Get Cheap Health Care (But Just Barely) - HuffPost

Image
You might be able to get a really good deal on health insurance, but only if you act right now. No, that's not a line from a schlocky television advertisement. It's true, and it may apply to you if you get coverage on your own ― in other words, if you don't get insurance through your employer and don't yet qualify for Medicare. Advertisement That's because of some big changes to the Affordable Care Act , also known as "Obamacare," that President Joe Biden and congressional Democrats have made this year. One change is an increase in the financial assistance available to people buying plans through HealthCare.gov or state-managed online marketplaces like Covered California . The other big change is an extension of open enrollment, the period where anybody can sign up for coverage and switch plans. More than 2.5 million people have already signed up for coverage this year, according to the Biden administration. That's an all-time high. But it could...

Solved! Why There Is Mold on the Window Sill and What to Do About It It's not uncommon to find mold on a window sill, but it's still a problem that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Banish unwanted buildup before it becomes a more significant issue. Photo: istockphoto.com Q: Lately, I've noticed mold on my window sills. I wipe it away, but it still keeps coming back. Is this a big deal? What's the best way to treat this problem? A: Mold can be more than a household hassle: It can cause damage to a home and pose a health risk to sensitive populations and compromise a home's air quality. The best way to treat mold on window sills is to eliminate the wet or humid conditions causing the growth. Before tackling this issue, identify whether you're dealing with mold or mildew, as the two share similarities and should be treated differently. For mold growth, you'll first need to identify the source of the problem by c...
