Roanoke motels in transition offer private and public development ... - Roanoke Times

Image
There is a gaping hole in the streetscape of Franklin Avenue in Roanoke. The former location of the Ramada Inn is dirt. The city calls this progress. And so do people who play outdoors. Engineers are devising a new, public green space. Along Williamson Road this year, a bulldozer will create another gaping hole — and development opportunity — when it levels the Budget Inn, which is going out of business. Roanoke is seeing a wave of motel makeovers. With four projects in progress, both public and private entities see opportunity repurposing hospitality venues on major thoroughfares that no longer serve the original purpose for which they were built. At 601 Orange Ave. N.E., crews have begun to prepare the former Days Inn, a motel built in 1975, for a Maryland developer to come in. The property changed hands in September for $2.95 million. Problem Solved: Stopping Leaks After Heavy, Wind-Driven Rains - Habitat magazine

Image
Jan. 24, 2023 As part of our ongoing Problem Solved series, Habitat spoke with Douglas J. Lister , the principal at Douglas J. Lister, Architect. Built to leak. I'd like to talk about two buildings. The first had serious leaks after several nor'easters and tropical storms. This building had a long history of leaks since it had been converted into a condominium in the 1980s. We started by inspecting apartments where we had complaints, and we found really, really moist, wet plaster inside the apartments. We found it throughout the building, even on low floors of this 17-story building. In my experience, typically on lower floors there really isn't a lot of damage, and that's because the upper floors receive the brunt of the damage during wind-driven rains. We estimated that we had water damage from about 50% of the exterior walls of the building, and that's a very high percentage. I'm going to back up a little bit and explain that pre-...

Key takeaways Our AAA car insurance quote ($1,744 for 12 months) was about $70 cheaper compared to GEICO ($1,811.38 estimated for 12 months). GEICO has 16 available discounts compared to 10 from AAA. AAA provides more add-on options than GEICO, including an automobile death benefit, full safety g...

AG Carr, Commissioner King Warn Georgians of potential fraud ... - Insurance News Net

Image
Henry Daily Herald (McDonough, GA) ATLANTA — Attorney General Chris Carr and Insurance Commissioner John King are urging Georgians to be on the lookout for potential home repair fraud, insurance scams, price gouging, and other schemes following the recent tornadoes and severe storms that moved throughout the state. When bad storms or tornadoes cause widespread damage to homes, criminals may try to exploit the disaster with storm fraud. These scam artists, often referred to as "storm chasers," may ask homeowners for up-front payments for home repair services and then disappear without ever doing the work, according to the press release from the Attorney General's Office . In other cases, scammers may charge exorbitant prices, charge you for unnecessary repairs or do substandard work. Sometimes scammers offer to cover the homeowner's insurance deductible...

How Much Does Attic Cleaning Cost? (2023) - Bob Vila

Image
Photo: istockphoto.com Highlights The typical price range for attic cleaning is between $150 and $1,000, with a national average cost of $200. The exact cost will be determined by the size and condition of the attic and the type of cleaning service selected. A homeowner will want to schedule an attic cleaning if they notice signs of rodents or mold in their attic, or if their home temperature is inconsistent. An attic in good condition may not require professional cleaning, but if the space is very dirty or requires decontamination, it's best to hire professional cleaners.
