Crux Climbing Center To Open Gym In Round Rock - Round Rock, TX Patch Posted: 13 Feb 2020 12:00 AM PST ![]() ROUND ROCK, TX — Crux Climbing Center, an Austin-based fitness center focused on bringing together climbers of all skill sets, announced on Thursday its plans to open a third area location in Round Rock. Slated to open late 2021, the new facility will sit on 5 acres of land at 1989 Steam Way about 20 minutes north of Austin's city limits. The facility will be 55,000 square feet in size— bringing Crux's collective footprint to nearly 100,000 square feet across its Austin and Round Rock facilities —and will feature 65-foot tall climbing walls, officials described. Crux hopes to build additional retail space near the Round Rock facility to support local businesses as it has done at its Austin sites, officials said. "We've built and grown such an awesome community in Austin and can't wait to extend our Crux family to include Round Rock," Kevin Goradia, founder and CEO of Crux, said in a prepared statement. "We're so excited to see our home-grown business thrive, and it's important to us to support other local businesses along the way." The center will host member appreciation events, industry nights, summer camps and competitions. Grace Nicholas, co-owner, COO and CMO of Crux, said the market expansion into Round Rock is the realization of a corporate goal: "It has been our dream since our earliest days to expand Crux to new, literal heights," she said. "Growing up in Austin, I would have loved climbing in a gym like Crux. This new location will allow more young climbers to foster their love for the sport, while its bigger, taller and Olympic-grade training features will attract even more world-class talent to Austin and its surrounding areas." The climbing feature at the new site comes at a time when the activity is poised to make its debut in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Nicholas noted. The feature will enable world-class climbers to train on Olympic-style lead climbing, speed climbing and bouldering routes, she added. To that end, Crux's third facility will house the only 55-foot tall speed wall located within three hours of Austin. In related news, a ribbon-cutting ceremony in conjunction with the Austin Chamber is scheduled for the company's South Austin location off South Congress Avenue. Here are those details:
Crux officials said the new location in Round Rock is made possible through a strategic land investment by Goradia, who is also an investor in a number of other Austin-based businesses including Cece's Veggie Co., Credo Foods, Crafty Counter, Future/Proof and the Coconut Cult. Goradia is also a mentor with Austin-based consumer products accelerator SKU. For more information on Crux Climbing Center and for updates on the new locations, visit www.cruxclimbingcenter.com.
