“We don’t cut corners, we clean them” has served as the motto for Duncan and Sons’ Building Maintenance, Inc. for years, and it has never been timelier than now during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The thorough cleaning services that the company provides area businesses, schools, offices and manufacturing facilities are in great demand. The Pandemic may have brought the importance of cleaning to everyone’s else’s attention, but Duncan and Sons’ Building Maintenance has provided janitorial services, hard-surface floor care, commercial carpet cleaning, water damage restoration, and sanitizing and disinfection

services for more than 30 years.

In response to the growing concerns over the coronavirus, Duncan and Sons’ prepared for the fear and anxiety by expanding their education and taking specialized courses offered by Global Biorisk Advisory Council. “Unexpected absences will certainly be a part of any pandemic, but our cross-training policies, special initiatives, and strategic scheduling are designed with business continuity in mind” says Sheri Henegar, the company’s General Manager. The Duncan team members are trained in the proper protocol for thoroughly disinfecting a workspace and certain technicians utilize specialized equipment like the electrostatic disinfection fogging machine to deliver added layers of protection.

For the past three decades Gary Duncan‘s business has grown from a one-man lawn care operation to a Knoxville building maintenance company, that employs over 300 professionals.  “Over the last 30 years, I’ve been fortunate enough to build my business by building trust and relationships,” says Gary Duncan. “We judge our success on customer satisfaction. My start came when one of my lawn care customers became a cleaning customer. That was 30 years ago, and that customer is still a customer today.”

Luke and Reuben Duncan believe that not cutting corners is the reason behind the company’s steady growth over the years.  Many new clients come by means of referral, the result of the stellar work the company does for their existing clients. “Nothing says more about the service you provide than building your business through referrals,” says Luke Duncan. Given that philosophy, it’s no surprise that 2020 marks the third consecutive year that Duncan and Sons Building Maintenance Inc. has been recognized as the “Best of the Best” in the office cleaning service category. Duncan and Sons’ remains a family business with Gary‘s sons, Luke and Reuben, holding key leadership positions in an organization with a family atmosphere. When the Pandemic began extra measures were taken to provide their team with the training, equipment, and procedures to remain safe. They have all worked very strategically and methodically to ensure that the Pandemic didn’t lead to layoffs or reduction in staff.
