What Is The Average Cost To Refinish Hardwood Floors? - Forbes

Image
Compare Quotes From Top-rated Local Flooring Contractors Free, No-commitment Estimates Find A Flooring Contractor Hardwood floors add a touch of elegance to any living space and can blend effortlessly into any home decor. But they sustain a ton of traffic on a daily basis, and over time, your beautiful hardwoods can become dull, discolored and pretty dinged up. If that's the case with your floors, it may be time to consider having them refinished. This process, which is far cheaper than replacing and reinstalling hardwood floors, involves sanding down the first layer of wood then restaining and sealing it so that you can enjoy many more years with your beloved flooring. It's important to note that the refinishing process only applies to actual hardwood floors. Engineered and laminate floors aren't excellent candidates for refinishing, which is why they have a much shorter life than real hardwood floors. While real wood floors can be...

America's Best Insurance Companies 2022 - Forbes

Image
For most sectors of the economy, the last 12 months have been tumultuous. The lingering Covid-19 pandemic continues to challenge healthcare systems and businesses worldwide, and the effects of climate change have only made matters worse. Despite these challenges, insurers, companies that are employed to protect clients against major risks, have had a good year, especially when it comes to the stock market. Over the last 12 months, iShares U.S. Insurance company ETF has had a total return of 45% versus a robust 32% return for the S&P 500.   "On an absolute basis it's been a great performance this year," says Piper Sandler's senior insurance industry analyst Paul Newsome. The biggest change brought about by Covid-19, for insurers, has been an increased reliance on digital tools in sales and claims processing, in the absence of face to face interactions as well as a deeper awareness of mortality from consumers who have sat on their couc...

They pay significant attorney's fees on permanency awards and incur other expenses in conjunction with the handling and adjusting of workers' compensation claims. My Basement Was Flooded by the Remnants of Hurricane Ida. Now What? - ConsumerReports.org

Image
You would think that as a journalist for Consumer Reports, I'd be prepared with the answers. Ideally, I'd have a wet/dry vac, dehumidifiers, and utility pumps ready to go. But alas, I specialize in health, food, and product safety, not home appliances, so I was decidedly unprepared. Fortunately, my husband, Russ, had the brains to act fast and the brawn to do what needed to be done: He grabbed a bucket, and began scooping up the floodwater and pouring it into our basement sink. He would go on to do this for hours as the rain poured down—flooding our streets, stranding drivers across the region in their cars, and putting many people in graver danger than what my family faced. As for me, I went to work collecting as many items as I could and bringing them to dry ground in a small storage area of the basement and on the first floor of our house. In between trips to the basement, I called plumbers to see if any were available to repair our broken sump pump. No surprise, they we...

‘God’s work’: Inside the booming world of disaster response - NBC News

Image
J. Lee Driskell was already on the road from her home in Brooksville, Florida, to Louisiana in her camper — the "Hurricane Hilton," as she calls it — when she got a call hiring her to bring crews to help clean up after Hurricane Ida.  It's the kind of call that's becoming more frequent. Driskell's traveling disaster response company, HernandoAg, has grown from a fledgling two-person business during the brutal days after Hurricane Florence in 2018 to a government subcontractor with hundreds of workers.  Like thousands of other businesses, HernandoAg makes money from disaster recovery jobs across the country, helping communities do everything from picking up trash and hauling debris to local dumps to removing trees that threaten power lines after storms like Ida. Once fragmented, the disaster recovery industry has grown swiftly in response to the many major natural disasters that have hit the U.S. in recent years. Even Wall Street has taken notice....

Steve Muehler Commercial Insurance Expands Into “Captive Builders Risk Insurance” - PR.com

Image
Los Angeles, CA, September 20, 2021 --(PR.com)-- In a Statement release by Steve Muehler today, "The industry standard for construction insurance today is the standard 'Insurance Services Organization's Commercial General Liability' policy. This has seventeen specific coverage exclusions listed on the policy, each of which a policy buyer or owner can pay extra money for to include in their insurance policy. The moving parts of construction projects in today's fast growing California Real Estate Market require a new and more broad risk management solution that can be customized to find that company's unique needs, not a 'cookie cutter – round peg, round hole' approach that the industry is known for today." "With our new Captive Insurance product for California Constructions Businesses, the business owner can insure their risks, utilize more comprehensive coverages, and mitigate for serious financial and operational losses. Under our Ca...
