France's Mathurin Boutte, San Jose's Anna Guzman claim Olympic distance wins at Santa Cruz Triathlon | Local Roundup - Santa Cruz Sentinel

Frenchman Mathurin Boutte, runner-up in the 2019 France Cross Triathlon National Championships, won the Olympic-distance Santa Cruz Triathlon on Sunday.
A graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina, Boutte completed the race in 2:02:04. He finished ahead of 672 other triathletes.
Boutte, 23, completed the 1,500-meter swim in 19:23, 40K bike in 1:03:29 and 10K run in 36:11.
Rocklin's Dominic Pollizzi, 20, took second in 2:03:19. Santa Cruz's Stefano Profumo, 43, who took third at the Little Wharf 3-Miler footrace on Saturday, finished the triathlon in third in 2:05:56.
San Jose's Anna Guzman, 32, earned a three-peat in 2:14:07 after claiming the 2019 title in 2:19:40 and '18 title in 2:18:20.
The race wasn't held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to being the fastest of 182 female athletes in the field, Guzman finished 10th overall.
She completed the swim in 21:30, bike in 1:06:27 and run in 39:07.
Santa Cruz's Sarah Anne Kietzer, 29, was the second-fastest female, finishing 35th overall in 2:23:31.
Mill Valley's Catherine Breed, 28 — one year and three days removed from her record setting solo swim across the Monterey Bay — was the third fastest female. The former Cal swimmer finished 43rd overall 2:24:40.
Sprint triathlon: San Francisco's Manuel Hueckel posted the fastest finish of 367 athletes in the sprint distance Santa Cruz Triathlon, which featured a 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run. He finished in 1:04:34, ahead of Tyler Curran (1:05:16) of White Plains, New York, and Lincoln's Brian Berger (1:10:08).
Morgan Hill's Christina Hepper was the fastest female, placing 26th overall in 1:19:20. Aptos' Jamie Fend finished second to Hepper and 33rd overall in 1:21:46. San Francisco's Alexandra Luzi was the third finishing female, taking 36th overall in 1:22:08.
Athletes competed in 13 divisions, including aquabike, sprint aquathon, open water swim, relay, athena and clydesdale. Complete results are available online.
Women's golf
U.S. Women's Mid-Am: Boulder Creek's Jennifer Brumbaugh narrowly missed advancing from 36-hole stroke play at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship on Sunday.
Brumbaugh, a former standout at Scotts Valley High and San Jose State, shot back-to-back rounds of 80 for a 16-over-par 160 total at Berkeley Hall Club in Bluffton, South Carolina. The cut to make the Round of 64 match play was 159.
Aliea Clark of New York was one of five players who shot 159. She survived a five-player playoff for the last spot to advance.
Jennifer Peng of San Diego was the stroke-play medalist with an 8-under 136 total. She was the only player under par to earn the No. 1 seed for match play, which began Monday morning.
Play concludes with Thursday's 18-hole championship.
Men's soccer
At UC Santa Cruz 1, Holy Names 0: Rory Monninger followed up teammate Ronaldo Nava's deflected shot in the 68th minute to help the Banana Slugs end their three-game winless streak Sunday.
The Hawks earned seven corner kicks to UCSC's two and held the shot advantage, 10-9.
Goalie Wolf Nash Schermerhorn made three saves over 90 minutes for the Banana Slugs (2-5-2), who host Bethesda (3-0-1) on Lower East Field on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Women's soccer
Cal Lutheran 3, at UCSC 0: Isabella Veljacic scored twice in a seven-minute span late in the second half, ruining UCSC's bid to rally for a win Sunday.
Elisa Shott gave the Regals (6-3-1) a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. Veljacic scored in the 67th and 74th minutes. Alexandra Fagerberg had a pair of assists.
UCSC was unable to generate a corner kick and was outshot 15-7.
Alyssa Diaz Tucker and Sam Coelho each played a half and made two saves each for the Banana Slugs (1-7-1), who host winless Holy Names (0-6-0) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
