Consumer Reports said that mold can show up in 24 to 48 hours. Based on the number of complaints received by 5 On Your Side, it's a constant battle for so many. With larger rooms that were soaked, warding off mold may require professional help with special drying equipment. But for smaller issues, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said people can usually deal with the mold themselves. Start by clearing out the space as soon as it's safe. Then, remove anything porous that can't be thoroughly cleaned and dried, such as carpet, upholstery, drywall, insulation and ceiling tiles. Try drying out the room by opening windows and using fans.
