Mold and water damage in your home? There are critical steps to take to prevent further issues. - WRAL.com

By Monica Laliberte, WRAL executive producer/5 On Your Side reporter Whether your home has a small water leak or you experience an all out flood, you need to move quickly to avoid bigger issues. Consumer Reports said that mold can show up in 24 to 48 hours. Based on the number of complaints received by 5 On Your Side, it's a constant battle for so many. With larger rooms that were soaked, warding off mold may require professional help with special drying equipment. But for smaller issues, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said people can usually deal with the mold themselves. Start by clearing out the space as soon as it's safe. Then, remove anything porous that can't be thoroughly cleaned and dried, such as carpet, upholstery, drywall, insulation and ceiling tiles. Try drying out the room by opening windows and using fans. Then, close the room and use a dehumidifier, which can remove a significant amount of moi...

Parked and Forgotten 1967 Pontiac Firebird Keeps Fighting, Needs Total Restoration - autoevolution

Image
The Firebird was pretty much Pontiac's answer to the Chevrolet Camaro, as the vehicle launched only a few months after its rival. 27 photos The first Camaro entered mass production in September 1966 for the model year 1967, while the Firebird got to see the daylight during the next February. The car was available in two body styles, namely coupe and convertible, with the production for the first year exceeding 82,500 units. The coupe obviously accounted for the lion's share, with some 67,000 Firebirds ending up in this configuration. The Firebird that we have here is one of these many coupes, though it's not hard to figure out this one hasn't exactly enjoyed only sunny days lately. The vehicle exhibits the typical amount of rust, but unfortunately, very little information has been provided on this front. In other words, if you want to find out more about what can still be saved on this Firebird, the best way to do it is to just pay a visit to Clas...

Atlantic City schools not safe for students, union leaders say - breakingac.com

Image
Atlantic City students are set to return to in-person learning starting Monday. But at least one school of teachers won't be there, citing safety concerns for the children. Brighton Avenue School's ventilation system has yet to be upgraded and is a threat to student health, the Atlantic City Education Association's president said. As a result, the teachers decided to use their sick time to call out of work en masse Monday. "This is about student safety," ACEA President P.J. Dollard said. "Sadly, the Brighton Avenue School has failed to prepare for the return of students into the classrooms. The ventilation system has not been updated. There have been little protective measures implemented in the school. The school is not safe for students to return." There are also concerns with other schools in the district, especially Texas Avenue, which has problems similar to Brighton and a third-floor ceiling cave-in. But those teachers decided against a mass call o...
